Got the new TV on Monday and she's beautiful.  Just hope it lasts more than 4 years....

The whole ordeal took just 27 days from when I first contacted them to when I received my TV.  The longest part was the negotiation.  It only took 6 days to get my new set from when Sony got all the paperwork they needed.

I'll update this post with pics and impressions soon but so far I'm loving the new set.

Anyone know of a stand that I can buy to put my center channel above the TV so it gets out of the way?  There's not enough space down at the bottom.  Thinking if there is a stand to mount the speaker on that I can put behind the TV, that might do the trick.

Unless the stand costs more than a new center channel speaker....

For the size of it, you could almost get a piece of velcro and attach it to the top -- it doesn't look very heavy.

How about a small shelf on the wall right above the top of the tv?  You could get one that matches the woodgrain at Lowe's for $20 or so.

I was thinking about that, but the wall is almost 3 feet back from the front of the TV and I think that the tv would block some sound as well as it not sounding like the dialog and stuff was coming from the screen.  Dunno...

It's magnetically shielded so it's actually quite heavy.  No way that velcro, or even super double-stick tape could hold it.  Not to mention that the TV isn't thick enough to balance it either....

I might just have to suck it up and get a new speaker, but the closest I could find was this from Sony, which includes two surround speakers that I don't need.

Still trying to see if I can fab up something to mount the speaker on the top of the set...

Are you running true surround-sound? I use a Vizio Sound Bar. Works well with my setup and meets my non-audiophile needs. I doubt that setting the speaker back from the tv is really going to break your suspension of disbelief that badly. You might have to move your child pornography to another wall, though.

Kudos for crossing that line, sir. I had entertained the idea, but thought it would be crude and tasteless and downright creepy.

It worked for you, though!

That was Allen's senior class superlative.

Well, after some thought and procrastination, I've got the speaker thing sorted.

I bought a piece of Plexi-glass and had it cut to make a speaker shelf, then I got a few 3/4 inch square dowel rods and the necessary M6 screws at Lowe's (Total Cost =$18.91).

Measured the holes on the back of the TV for a mount to be attached and drilled holes into the dowels and attached them, then placed the shelf on them and the front of the TV, marked and drilled two holes in the plexi and then sank some wood screws on top.  Final touch was a few thin strips of heavy duty double stick tape on the very front to hold the shelf secure and some weather stripping to form a bumper and wedge to aim the speaker down to the viewing position.  All in all, I'm pretty satisfied.. Pics..

Yay for cheap-ass jerry-rigged solutions! Looks good (if slightly off-center).

Looks perfect from the couch.  I've since moved the speaker to the center...

Ha! I've told my kids never to put bumper stickers on their cars because no one really gives a rip what you'd rather be doing, who you voted for or what truck you'd like to pee on. Now I'll have to include fingernails in the mix.
