DVD & Blu-Ray Purchases/Discussion Thread
« on: January 30, 2005, 02:26:25 PM »

Figured I'd start a thread for DVDs that we were purchasing or interested in.  This is actually a pretty big week for me, although it's not because of new releases.

Karate Kid is finally being released in anamorphic OAR.  Unfortunately it is only available with the other movies.  Part II wasn't bad but Part III was terrible and I haven't seen The Next Karate Kid.  I've heard it's not very good. The set is only about $5 more than the cost of one new release here so that makes the decision easier.

Degrassi Jr. High: Season 1 is a favorite show from my childhood.  This Canadian show tackled some pretty serious issues in ways that most other shows dared not (teenage pregnancy, drugs, AIDS etc.).  It's been years since I've seen it...should be great!

Sealab 2021: Season 2 is just a flat-out hiliarious show with great voice casting and dialogue.

I love Sealab, but IMO the show has slipped some since Harry Goz died.  I'll definitely pick up these old episodes.

I've been wanting to check out the old after school specials from the 70's.† They've been coming out with those sets recently.† I'm also ready for Simpsons Season 6 to come out, but since 5 hasn't been out too long, I guess I'll have to wait for a while... :'(

Not too long!  It was just recently discovered that Season 6 will be available on June 14.  It's great that they seem to be speeding up these releases while keeping the special features plentiful.  The year-long wait between Seasons 1, 2 and 3 had me worried.

The Incredibles (March 15th)  :o Saw it twice at the theater and can't wait for next Tuesday!

Team America (I believe this comes out in April or maybe May)

I've also picked up all the Aqua Teen Hunger Force seasons. I've been meaning to give Selab a look also. I picked up BTAS Volume 2 and Speed Racer the other day as well. :)

Well, some more DVDs for me...

The Incredibles[/u] (03/15)
This won't be arriving until next week but Pixar has not let me down yet.  Really looking forward to seeing this!

Star Wars: Clone Wars Vol. 1[/u] (03/22)
I didn't catch the first episodes of this but it sounds very intriguing.  It picks up where Attack of the Clones left off.  This volume includes the 20 episodes from the first two seasons (3 - 4 minutes in length each).

Firewalker[/u] (03/22)
This is a total guilty pleasure for me.  Chuck Norris and Louis Gosset Jr. at their finest (note I said 'their finest').  I've had an old ratty VHS copy for years.  Glad to see it's finally being released in anamorphic OAR.

A few more purchases over the last few weeks:

The 5th season of one of the greatest shows ever created.  The Sopranos is so rewatchable!  I'm just on my last few episodes of S5 and plan to revisit the entire series again just prior to the airing of S6.

Roll on Degrassi Jr. High!  Awesome Canadian show.

Didn't see Team America theatrically, but I was a huge fan of South Park: The Movie.  The marionettes were very well done as were the songs.  America, Fuck Yeah!

Kevin Smith is a huge Degrassi fan.  He had a cameo appearance in an episode of Degrassi Next Generation last season.  Why they didn't invite him to host the Degrassi reunion special is beyond me.  I'm eager to find out what original actors are going to be in the upcoming film as well.

This show came out when I was a sophmore in college (1986, right?) and I never watched a single episode.
