Watched G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra last week and thought it was a horrible piece of donkey dung.  I was told it was a fun action movie and I don't think I enjoyed a single part of it.  The CG is some of the worst I have ever seen, especially since I think this movie cost north of $100 million to make.

I'm so sad, I kinda liked G.I. Joe. It was better than the trailers made it look. I do agree that the CG was terrible. I kept thinking they hired the same person who did Twilight's effects.

Did you chose the Human or Prawn menu?  I'm curious if there's a difference.

I chose Human. I figured if I chose Prawn I'd get the menus in an alien language and be lost like the Memento DVD. I'd be pretty pissed if there was an actual difference in the film and I missed out on something.

I chose Prawn, but the menu wasn't in Prawn-ese.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. This was the first HP movie that made me wish I'd read the book. I mean that in a good way. I was invested in the characters and wished I knew what they were thinking a lot of the time. I felt lost on a regular basis as well. I was having trouble remembering who was who and what was behind certain motivations. That's another reason I haven't read the books. I fear I wouldn't be able to keep the characters straight across seven long novels. Then again, if elementary school kids can do it, I should be able to too.

Yes Pieter, I think you can do it.  If you have any questions after reading them, you can ask my kids.  We read each book ahead of the movies and have really enjoyed them.  The movies have obviously cut out a bunch of awesome stuff but have managed to stay true to the stories.  You will enjoy Jim Dale if you go the audiobook route.

This was the first movie that has absolute no exposition, and frankly I thought it was a good choice.  The books themselves are fairly easy to keep track of across the span as there are a lot times in the text that she inserts little descriptions to remind you who they were.  It annoyed me a lot.  I'm on record for saying that I didn't need a "Previously, on Harry Potter..." every other page.  But then again, I'm not the target demographic.

Watched The Hurt Locker earlier this week.  Really, really enjoyed it overall.  Don't know if it was if I was as blown away as all the critics, especially by the last 1/2 hour or so, but it's definitely a very good war movie and worth watching.  The acting is good (Jeremy Renner has come a long way since National Lampoon's Senior Trip) and the tenseness of the bomb diffusings is very well done.  Nice to see Kathryn Bigelow back on top of her game.

Watched Rob Zombie's Halloween II last night.  Didn't like it as much as the first one, but then that one took me a couple viewings before I enjoyed it.  There was some stuff I liked in this one but there was a lot I didn't.  He has made his version of the story so far from the original, that any comparisons would be pointless, though he has kept some things.  I really hope his next movie is an original idea of his, but it would be nice if it didn't revolve around white trash all the time.

Saw A Knight's Tale last night for the first time.  Fun, entertaining movie.  I see why so many people like it.

Watched Public Enemies today.  It was pretty good I thought.  Not Michael Mann's best by any means but it was a better than average gangster movie with some good performances by all involved.  It was beautifully shot though as most Mann movies are and of course had some well done gunfights.  Watched it on Blu Ray and the picture and sound were fantastic.

Visited the Red Box Twice this weekend:

Paranormal Activity - I really enjoyed this.  Definitely scarier than I expected it to be, especially off the big screen.  It'll make you question all the little noises around your house, lol.  Kylee slept on the couch for a couple hours while I played ME2 after watching instead of going upstairs Tongue.

Zombieland - Good, Zombie fun.  Gory, but in a comical way, and while I expected it to be more of a comedy than anything, it was actually even more light-hearted than I thought it would be.  Still, definitely enjoyable, with a decent cameo mid-film.

Through casual conversation this week, I found out Wendy had never seen Dumb & Dumber. I hadn't seen it in years, and was worried it wouldn't hold up.

It did.   Grin

Held up like a MoFo, I would presume. One of the funniest movies ever.

Did she pee her pants laughing? Not that I ever did...

No pee, but I had tears in my eyes. First time in a while that's happened.

I watched Food, Inc. last night via Netflix.  Wow!  I knew some of this stuff already, but there were some real eye openers here, especially the stuff about the Monsanto corp. and their near monopoly on the soybean.  Really frightening stuff, even for vegetarians.  They compare the food industry to how the tobacco companies used to be, but I think this is way worse.  I mean, you don't have to smoke to survive, (well, me and Kieth Richards might) but you HAVE to eat and their doesn't seem to be many options or at least not any easy ones.

I highly recommend this, even for omnivores like myself.  It's a well done, and pretty open minded documentary.  I watch a lot of documentaries and a lot of them seem pretty one sided, but this wasn't an anti - meat film at all...  if anything, it was just pro human/pro health.  Very well done....
