I did the free trial tonight and I'm hooked.  I'll definately be ponying up the $60.00 for a year of this.  My username is sean1980 since some other bastard is using sean80 already.

I signed up with Gametap on Friday.  So far I think itís great.  Iíve played a few retro games and my wife has found a number that she enjoys.  And I think my stepson (Max) had to change his pants after he found out how many games there were that he could play.

Weíve had one problem so far though.  Sam and Max isnít working right on our computer (it ran fine on Maxís).  The mouse pointer is oversensitive and sluggish.  I called their tech support and the guy was very nice but could only tell me itís a known problem on some systems and that they're working on it.  I hope it gets patched soon as my wife was really looking forward to playing it.

It's a hell of a service for $60 a year.  Now, at the original asking price of $180...

Speaking of Gametap, has anyone else gotten emails from Gametap about a survey and a $20 gift card to Amazon?

I got an e-mail for a $10.00 gift certificate.  I haven't received it yet though.  Oh well.

Has anyone else had any troubles playing Contra?  Everytime I try to load it, Gametap minimizes and then pops back up.  I got it to load once and I was in heaven but now I can't get it to load again.   >:(

So far the only problem Iíve had is with Sam & Max.  Call their tech support Sean.  Itís free and they actually seemed fairly helpful.

Gametap is going to be offering some games up for free on their website:

Quote
Starting May 31st, all visitors to GameTap's website will be able to play through a rotating list of 30-60 titles (up to a T rating) and watch GameTap TV content (hooray) via an ad-supported Lite Player at no charge. Players who register become Green Level Members, effectively lifting the rating caps while gaining access to community features. Of course gamers will still be able to purchase the ad-free membership for $9.99 a month, only now they'll be considered Gold Level members. Fancy.

Mike, you were right and they're also going to start distributing PC games digitally for purchase, with Tomb Raider Anniversary being the first.

Tomb Raider Anniversary is also now on the "coming soon" list for normal Gametap subscribers. Coming soon pretty much means within a month. We also just got Metal Slug available now, with the rest of the Metal Slug catalog now on the "coming soon" list as well.

Oh...and Sam & Max is up to 6 episodes. Take THAT, frigging Half-Life 2 and Sin Episodes.

Is anybody else getting major stuttering when Tomb Raider Anniversary is loading?  It tries to do the whole 'streaming load' thing in level but it turns into slowdown central.  My PC specs are well beyond what is needed for the game, and I've got fast SATA drives and a good controller.  I'm wondering if this is bad design, or some technical (maybe Gametap-specific) issue.

I haven't tried it yet.  If I remember I'll check it out this weekend.

I haven't had any issues with it. Seems to load fine for me, and I've got a upper-mid-range system. (3.2ghz Intel, 2gb ram, ATI 850XT)

In other good Gametap news:

1 - one of the recent updates must have fixed the issue with the 360 wireless adapter. Works great now.

2 - Psychonauts is coming! (I actually haven't played it yet :)
