Personal Achievements - The Feel Good Thread!
« on: March 12, 2007, 08:18:04 PM »

With all the bitching and moaning on the Internet, maybe we could designate a thread to share good, clean, fun news...

This weekend our school competed in the Academic Decathlon for the first time in five years. I was the coach for the individual Math section and team Logic Quiz. My students were dedicated and eager, but I couldn't help being nervous as I'd never coached anyone for the Decathlon before. I had no idea what to expect. We were just hoping to not embarrass ourselves. At the end of the day we walked away with several medals including a silver in both Math and Logic! Good times.

This thread may very well die a warm and fuzzy death, but if you do have some good news to share, post away...

Well, last Wednensday in my bowling league I finally hit a milestone I've been trying for.  I bowled a 681 series.  That's 213, 232, and 236.  I was so damn happy.  I've been trying for a 600 series for a long time now.  I've bowled higher games (256) in the past, but never put it together 3 games in a row.  So that's a 227 average for the night which is good for a 166 bowler.   My previous best was a 593 series.    :D

Nice Mike.  Awesome stuff.  When I went bowling last month I don't think I scored half of that in 4 games.  Oh how sad it was.

Hahaha  thanks guys.  Sean, I know how ya feel, I've had those nights too.  Also, Jon bowled a 749 series the day before I bowled my measly 681.  He barely posts here so I thought I would brag for him.  That's about a 250 avg. for 3 games, but he just swears he's not very good.  yeah right....

Good stuff Mike!  The only time I've ever come close to a 600 score for 3 games was on Silver Strike.  I might be able to get to 500 if I actualy bowled more than once a year.

I've finally achieved 90% health on my knee where I had to have my shredded ACL replaced with a cadaver ligament.  I plan on playing flag football again when the season starts in two weeks, so this may be a shortlived celebration.  Wish me luck.

Be careful!!!

Oh since this is the "Toot your own horn" t.w.s.s. thread...  I forgot to mention that I quit smoking on February 10th.  Today is March 21st..... no homicides so far.  ;)

Good luck!

How did you hurt the knee initially?

playing flag football.  I injured it right before halftime, but played on it after halftime, which is why the orthopedic surgeon told me I "shredded" it.  Fortunately I got lucky and ended up with a surgeon who had performed ankle surgery on a gymnast who went on to win a gold medal in the Olympics within 2 years.  Not that I'm winning any superbowl rings anytime soon, but I'm happy with the results.
