I've had a couple of guys come through the Starbucks drivethrough with theirs.  One guy said he just woke up and decided to go to Cingular and see if they had any - there wasn't a wait and they had some in stock so he just picked one up.  Another guy (didn't hear if his pick up was easy or hard) let me play with his a little.  It's quite elegant - only one button and dead simple to operate.  However, the photo viewer didn't strike me as being as impressive as it was on a web movie I saw about the iPhone.

I won't be getting one though.  I can tell you that.  ;)

Their selling for upwards of $700 on eBay.

I have no use for one, so I'll keep my $500.

My wife's company was recently acquired by AT&T, who typically gives phenomenal employee discounts for phones and service. Originally, she was told that she (really, I, since she wants a BlackJack) wouldn't be able to purchase one until the first phase had died down, probably mid-July. But, of course, AT&T decided that the iPhone would be the one thing they're not subsidizing for employees. I don't think I'll be able to resist one, though, once I get an iMac.

$3000 for the phone and service for 2 years.  That's what I keep reminding myself.

How much is AppleCare for it?

It comes with a one year repair warranty and you can buy an additional year for $69.

$69 for a year isn't bad for a piece of pricy hardware.  But I still don't see an iPhone in my near future.  The mandatory data plans have got to get a lot more affordable.

Give me an iPhone MKII with a hard drive and a $50 a month phone plan.

so, did anyone in the us of a buy an iphone?

Why yes, one of us did!  It is everything I have been lusting for over the past two years and more.  Suzannah and I both think they hit a homerun with the feature set they focused on and are more than happy to be v1.0 adopters.

Eran and I took a nice ride down to the Naples Apple Store on Saturday afternoon and breezed in to pick up an 8gb model.  There was no fuss, no lines, and no hassle getting it.  I guess most of the people there are so rich that they can't be bothered to make their own calls.  That was our first time in an Apple Store and we enjoyed messing around with all of the awesome machines they had out.  I would have loved to get a 24" Cinema Display while we were there - absolutely gorgeous.

The iPhone really helped as we navigated our way to Miami on Friday (to visit some customers of mine) and up to Orlando.  It worked very well on the AT&T Edge network and only hit a few spots without service as we made our way east on Alligator Alley (through the Everglades from Sanibel to Miami).  It FLIES on my wireless network and works as well as any wireless network sniffer I have ever seen.  I turned it on at a friend's house last night and had my choice of four wireless networks to join.

We have watched a few Scooby Doo episodes, listened to some tunes and done a ton of web surfing.  All without a hitch.  Activation was very easy - no hassles at all.

More to follow soon!

I found this interesting.  This is an email from the IT dept at my job.

Quote
Subject: IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING APPLE iPHONE

As many of you are aware, Apple Inc. in conjunction with AT&T Inc., has recently released a new smartphone device called the iPhone. As it is Informaticís charge to continually investigate new technologies, we have begun to investigate the iPhone's capabilities and technology. Based on our investigation to date, we are currently not in a position to support the device or provide connections to the XYZ Office email systems, XYZ Office laptops, or desktops.

The following rationale forms the basis for our policy:
- Contrary to AT&T's marketing, the iPhone's technology is currently designed to be a consumer based product and not meant to be a corporate messaging device.
- Our e-mail systems do not currently support the protocol standards that would enable the iPhone to transmit and receive messages. The protocols required to enable messaging with the iPhone cannot be opened because they are a security risk.
- Apple and AT&T have not, as of yet, developed the required backup or client management tools necessary to support the iPhone in a corporate environment.
- Synching the iPhone with your computer requires iTunes. Currently there is not a version of iTunes which corporations can use to limit security holes or to restrict only for business critical functionality.
We will continue to investigate the feasibility of supporting the iPhone and will update you accordingly.
Thank you for your cooperation

They did that to say shut up to the Blackberry users who want to switch.  I'm sure this is a PITA for IT departments everywhere.

Nice stuff.  So what's the battery consumption like?  Does it get good reception?  How clear is the sound on it?  Not like I'm buying one anytime soon but I'm just curious.
