Wii Fit
« on: May 10, 2008, 11:46:57 AM »

I've had my copy of Wii Fit pre-ordered for some time now, but as the release date gets closer I still see no sign of a standalone option for the balance board. I was really hoping to do some simultaneous multiplayer with the wife, but am now worried the game won't include that feature. Anyone know the status of that? I would wager the game gets turned on at our house much more often if we were able to do the workouts at the same time or at least the mini-games.

I see the game We Ski offers four-player simultaneous multiplayer and balance board controls. That's encouraging.

Edit: Drat. IGN says:

Quote
We Ski can be played entirely with the Wiimote and Nunchuk. Of, if you have Wii Fit, you can ski with the Balance Board. The drawback is that the Board can only be used in single-player mode. Multiplayer is available for up to four people, but you'll have to leave the Board back at the cabin.

I find it hard to believe that Nintendo isn't going to offer a stand-alone peripheral for Wii Fit. It will probably be comparitively expensive, since it isn't simply a shell like the Wii Wheel.

I have to imagine that they'll sell the scales stand-alone after the are able to catch up with supply for the bundle.  Think Rock Band.  By this fall they'll have something, especially since there are other games that will support the scales.

Amazon says my copy is shipping soon. It got me wondering, will the Balance Board work on carpet? I remember weighing myself on a regular scale on carpet before and it didn't really work. Has Nintendo thought about this? I know Wii Fit is out in Europe and Japan, have any of you international men/women of mystery heard if the BB requires a hard surface to function?

Boy, there's nothing like seeing your Mii displayed as a pot-bellied slob to motivate you to work out!

And wow, the ski slalom training in Wii Fit made me feel like a fool at first.  Hello, toughest video game ever!

Dave, any input on my carpet question? My copy has been delivered. As soon as I get home I'll put on my sports bra and get to work!

Jo has been eager for this for a couple of months now.  She went out today and picked up a copy at Circuit City.  She said they ran out quick and not everybody got one.

I'm looking forward to seeing my fat ass Mii when I get home!

There are extenders for the feet that you're supposed to use with deeper carpeting, so they've at least made an attempt to address the issue.

The carpet attachments work nearly perfectly. It was only a pound off from my bathroom scale and that thing is years old, so the balance board is probably more accurate anyways. The first time I did my set of tests my Wii Fit Age was -1 and my wife was -2. I can't wait to dive in to the exercises now.

I was a -2 and my wife was a -4.  The funny part?  Max is +20!

So has everybody stuck with their Wii Fit regimen?  Or is the balance board gathering dust?

I'd like a balance board myself (without the game) but as usual it seems that Nintendo isn't willing to make enough (come on, this isn't a game console, there have to be thousands of plants that this production could be contracted out to).

I hear it's a blast with the Shaun White snowboarding.

Ours is pretty dusty too.  Jo was really into it for a while and then kind of gave up I guess.  Maybe I need to remind her about it.
