Star Wars the Old Republic

I'm really looking forward to this.

Here are some trailers and such. The new combat video is really cool.

Anyone else keeping an eye on it? I'll be defecting from WoW for it :P

If I ever decide to play another MMO this will be the one.  I know others have tried, but I think this is THE WoW killer.

I haven't followed this much, but my 3 second speculation is that if it doesn't have world-streaming (a minimum of load screens) then it's not going to be a WoW killer. I can only speak for myself, but its the thing that sticks out most to me when I try a new MMO. Being able to seamlessly travel from area to area without a load screen makes the world feel so much larger and real. All the other MMOs feel very compartmentalized.

Imagine playing GTA4 and every 5 blocks you have to go through a toll-booth load screen. That's what all the non-WoW MMOs feel like to me.

I've never played WoW, but isn't your "loading screen" the vast distance you have to travel between places? While you're moving through unpopulated areas, the destination with all the people and fighting and such is loading in the background.

Not exactly. You aren't traveling vast unpopulated areas. It's true you might have to travel a long distance to get to where you are going, but the entire way is populated with enemies, quests, and places to explore.

The only time you get a load screen is when you travel from one continent to another, or enter an instanced dungeon.

It's just like GTA. There's all kinds of things going on and things that can happen during travel.

I was finally going to break my MMO cherry with TOR but at this point my (post-divorce) social life is in overdrive and I have almost no time for gaming as it is.  So I guess I'm going to be passing.

How do you make other people pay for your mistake of over-pulling if there is no zone you can train them to?  Man.  you kids.  Back in MY day…

I got the invite email too...  How do I get to play?  There are no links in the email and when I sign in at the main SWTOR site... still nothing.

I'm guessing by the vaugeness of the email, this might not be my weekend.  I'm assuming mine will be an "upcoming" weekend.   :'(

Tony,  I know about the NDA, but if you actually get in, at least let us know if you like it.  I've read that people are having a hell of a time getting on and queues and client download times are crazy long.
