I was able to get a pre-owned copy of PD at my game rush today(for $14.99  8) ).  I'll give it a try tonight.

How much of the single player game will I need to play (in hours) before I can join in on the online action??

Based on the little online action I've seen, ALL OF IT!

If you want to be able to create your own custom arsenals to battle with, you'll need to be into Chapter 3 in the single player campaign.  I'd say that would take you 3 - 4 hours.  Chapters 1 & 2 are excellent anyway, as they teach you all you need to know about the game.  Bryan's right though, you'll want to progress through as much as you can to obtain more skills.

I just reached Chapter 5. Interesting story twist!

Jeff, you don't need any single-player time to play online. We can use "random arsenals" and teach you the ropes as we play.

Allen, you just want to kick Jeff's ass around a bit, admit it.

Jeff, you will need to dedicate some time to this game, but like God of War, once you start playing you won't want to stop.

Woo-hoo!  Chapter 7, bay-bee!

Once I finally picked the right arsenal, the triple-Freia fight wasn't too bad.  My goal now is to finish the story by the end of the week.  Then, it's on to Psychonauts... hopefully.

I thought I'd bump this as I realized this is the perfect game for Screwnut. Greg, have you played Phantom Dust?

Totally agree. PD is more like a real-time interpretation of Magic: The Gathering than the actual M:TG game is!

No.   I've seen it once one time when I hung out at Jeremy's place (proven failsafe) but I have no idea what it is about or anything.  Saw it used once at an EB store, but they wanted $29.99 CAN for a used copy.  I might consider picking it up but I don't have anybody to play against so I left it.

Single player is done very well, and it does support 2 player split screen (as well as 4 player link/LIVE)

Simplest way for me to explain it. 300 spells and abilities to eventually unlock and learn (think MTG cards) You have to make a 'deck' out of spells and aura particles (mana). Your deck is randomized and your spells and aura show up physically in the game environment and you have to pick them up. You battle the enemy in real time with destructible environments. It's mostly direct damage, but there are some neat flying and other types of spells. (no creature summons though). Definitely worth a look if you can find it cheap.

As a CCG nerd, you owe it to yourself to play this one, Greg. One of my favorite Xbox games. TRU in the US has it for $10, and TRU Canada is having a BOGO sale right now, so you may be in luck. Let me know if you can't find it locally and I'll pick you up a copy down here.

And at least four of us still have it.

It is truly an amazing game and one that I can remember Matt, Allen, Dave and myself putting many hours into both offline and online.  Just taking a read back through this thread reminded me of how much I got into it.  Even if you don't plan to take it online at all, the single player and local split-screen make it more than worth the money.

PD is a top-notch game that I doubt I'd ever trade in.  Great fun on and off-line.  Absolutely the best $20 game I ever played.  It was selling around here for $10 recently I believe.

Saw this last night at my local EB for $20CDN if anyone is looking for it.  Don't know if it's BC or not though.
