I would of course love a PowerBook! I gained a lot of new responsibilities at my work this year, and using only the desktop in my classroom has not been enough. I'm taking a lot of work home with me and it's become quite a hassle to copy all the files I need at the end of every day. End result: I've resurrected my 4.5 year old iBook. It's the most reliable computer I've ever owned, but it just doesn't have the speed I've grown accustomed to. So I've been pining for a PowerBook. Be sure and let us know what you think of it!

I sleep on a bed comprised of inexpensive Dell laptops.

I sleep on an old dog blanket in the corner of the basement, because Mistress says that's all I deserve.

I actually might end up with an iPod eventually...it looks like iPodLinux with MPD will finally fix the biggest shortcomings of the iPod (for me, FLAC and gapless playback support)...cool stuff!   I hope the project proceeds at a fast pace.

iPodLinux

  • Multitasking - listen to music and play games/spin useless cubes at the same time!
  • More formats - FLAC, OGG and more!
  • Better playlisting - on the go, mix and match, whatever takes your fancy.
  • No more malloc errors - semi-intelligent file buffering.
  • Better support for non-iTunesDB files (tag scanning).
  • Gapless playback - great for live and continuously mixed albums.

It's great that hackers are out there to fix the problems that huge wealthy conglomerates cannot.   And I'm not just talking about Apple...

I've often thought of picking up an Apple but I can never justify the cost.  It's hard enough to justify the 360 to my wife...

My new Powerbook is here.  Wow!  It is gorgeous.  Thin, light and sleek.  I was using my wireless network in less than 30 seconds.  I'll snap a shot or two soon.

Way to go, Bryan! I'd love to see some photos.

Did anyone else see "Steve Jobs" on Weekend Update during a recent SNL? The actor didn't much physically resemble him, but he had the mannerisms down pat that you see at the Keynotes. "I'm thrilled to announce..."

Personally, I'm using the Dashboard less and less. My list has been whittled down to: weather, Christmas countdown, dictionary, and eBay watcher. And even those I don't use on a daily basis.

How's that Powerbook working out for you?

I'm loving the 'Book so far.  I haven't archived any of my dvds yet - any recommendations for ripping/burning applications?
