Talk about your black cloud......

Looks like I am going to miss out on some Live gaming over then next week or 2, depending on how long it takes Belkin to send me a replacement router.  I have no idea how I could have managed to mess it up so badly but I was on the phone with Tech Support till 3:30AM at which point they told me that I was going to get a replacement in the mail..  Its going to be a long day at work as well as a long few day with no LIVE..
I wont be able to make the Links matches either.  This Sucks….

I know it's last resort...and I don't know what your cabling situation is, but assuming you are waiting on just a replacement router (and not a router/modem) you could just directly connect your Xbox to your cable/dsl modem. It's a hassle to swap back and forth from your PC, but you could at least get some play time in before your replacement arrives.

My suggestion as well - straight into the Xbox from the modem.  Go buy a long cable if they are not close.

If I can find it on the cheap I might just do that.  I would need about 25ft give or take..  I think that crap can run up in price if I remember correctly.

Here is a 25' cable from New Egg for $5.99.  I imagine even with 2nd day shipping it wouldn't cost that much.

EDIT:  Changed link to actually CAT 6 cable.  Price went up to $5.99.  Three day shipping is $4.99.  Not to bad unless you have a local place with a good deal.

The new router was shipped two day mail.  Not a bad move on Belkins part.  It makes up for there lackluster phone techs..

It was great to see Howie in the same room as Bryan last night.  And they could talk to each other and everything.  Nice to see Belkin come through on the customer support end.

While I doubt my cable modem is the problem, I exchanged it this weekend after a lightning bolt killed the ethernet port last week. The LAN1 port on my router also no longer works but 2-4 are fine. I'll stick with it until I upgrade my network in November.

Does anyone have to manually log into Live or does their 360 take care of that? It did for me during the 1st 10 days or so but now, although it will log me into my profile, it won't connect to Live until a run a "Test Connection" and have it cycle through each of the test segments. At that point, I press "b" (back) and I'm logged in. Anyone else have this happen? Anyone have any suggestions? I do want to point out that when I first connected the 360, I never did any setting adjustments of any kind. I unplugged my wireless bridge from the original XB to the 360 and it started to work. Don't know if that has anything to do with it but just wanted to mention it.

I have to log into Live because I use a passcode but I've never had to use the test connection function.

I had the Dlink Gamerlounge wireless bridge for my Xbox, and moved it over to my 360. However, I had connection issues with it. There were various rooms I couldn't get into, and I couldn't connect to my PC using it. I converted back to wired connection for my 360 and everything works fine.

Well, even after assigning IP addresses to all of my stuff, my shitty Netgear router is still giving me a strict NAT setting.  I'll be bringing my DLink 524 home and swapping it out with the netgear and bringing that piece of shit to my office.

I've played around with the port forwarding on the Dlink and it seems as it should open the ports for both my 360 and my xbox because it doesn't ask me to specify an IP address to forward the port to.  This makes me think that it globally opens the ports to all devices connected to the network.  I really hope this works, because it's a drag not hearing people when I play my original xbox.

Wish me luck.

J.

Jeff, I'm using the D-Link 624 (a year older than the 524 I believe) without any sort of problem.  I'd imagine it'll behave the same as mine.

Jeff, it looks like the DI-524 is Xbox Live certified.  You may want to update your firmware though, according to the official page for that model router.  If you do, just make sure you get the appropriate firmware for whatever revision you have of the DI-524.
