Not with Media Connect.   Maybe James can tell us about MCE.

OK, did Microsoft screw the pooch?

How the hell do you have a dashboard chat with multiple people at the same time.   If they dropped that functionality, they fucked up bigtime.    How can you plan your festivities if you can't talk to each other all at once regardless of what games you own?

EDIT:   And what the fuck is up with CoD2?   Either the hosting is an invisible function, or they use dedicated servers.   Combine this with an eight-player limit and you'll never be playing your friends, because by the time you get their invite and accept it, the tiny room has filled up and the game is starting.

Live dashboard appears seriously downgraded, and CoD2 is a game for playing strangers online only.   Throw me a frickin' bone.

Ok Dave keep the laughter to a minimum.

Edit: This clears up the confusion about chat rooms with multiple friends...   There is only the privite chat and in game chat...

Unlike general in-game voice communication, a chat is a closed conversation between you and one other person. Your partners in chat can be playing the same game you are, but they can also be playing a different game—or watching a DVD movie, or listening to music. Both of you could, in fact, be just be sitting around wondering what to do next.

The Xbox 360 console can accommodate up to four separate but simultaneous one-on-one chats across four chat channels, in addition to "public" in-game communication for an Xbox Live–enabled multiplayer game.

Here is another one..

Xbox 360 takes chat to another level for a more relaxed, social experience. Put simply, the chat feature allows you to hook up with a fellow Xbox Live Gold Member at any time to strategize, congratulate, challenge, and more.

Seems like a step in  the wrong direction.

Agreed.  I never expected to lose any chat-related functionality with the 360.  The fix?  Load a game we all have, such as Halo 2 or PDZ and play instead of sitting in the dash.  From the half-full side, this will get us playing more.
_______

I had a fantastic time running around in PDZ with Mike, Chris and Jeremy last night!  It is a fun game with some awesome maps.  The bots are plenty good enough to keep you busy.  I definitely started to get a comfort level with the controls after the first round we played.  It has legs.
_______

Condemned.

Damn, what a scary experience!  I have never felt that jumpy in a videogame.  They created an unbelievably tense atmosphere and nailed the feel of swinging boards and pipes.  Making contact with those and blocking almost feels like a rhythm game.  The graphics are off-the-hook gorgeous and the sound is ten times better.  I wish everyone could hear the noise made when your character stumbles into a plastic bucket in the dark.  Dead on.
I would recommend everyone giving this at least a rental.  It is going on the shelf next to the top of the line horror movies  in my collection.  Matt, you particularly will love this one.  Make sure to grab it if you haven't already.

I'm not laughing, Howie, I'm seething.  Hey, at least I can have a group chat in the dashboard with all of my friends who aren't getting a 360...

Oh, fuck.

I guess the lack of sleep got to me.  I had a 100 degree fever last night so I decided to sleep.  Feel better today.  Not much, but a little.

It's definitely on my need to play list.  I just don't know if I can spend $60 on an 11 hour game with no multiplayer.  If I see it for rent I'll grab it for sure otherwise it might have to wait for deal or price drop.

It seems rather shabby that there is no dashboard chat option.  That's a bunch of crap.  Maybe it takes up to much bandwidth.   :P  But as Bryan said, we'll just have to start playing games.

The Rep rating is based on people marking you as a preferred player in the Friends List.  Let's share some TB love and get those reps rising!

Ugh.   More getting up to swap discs, more waiting for things to load, and everybody has to buy PDZ even if they don't like it.   Halo 2?   Forget that, you lose a ton of dashboard functionality when using BC mode.

The whole idea of 360 is that community and connectivity are available at the touch of a button, not by taking some half-assed s l o w workaround.

This is an unspeakable fuckup on MS's behalf.   A step backwards to PS2 online.

Maybe they will sell an Arcade game called 'ChatMania' so that we can at least access a group chat from the dash like in the old days.   Jeezus.

Angrier and angrier...

I'm more stunned than angry.

As a whole, I'm very happy with my 360, but we shouldn't overlook shortcomings and mistakes.    I certainly hope that many people post their concerns to Live Customer Service, maybe we'll get a dashboard update at some point (though I'm sure they won't ever want to do one since not everybody has a hard drive).

I'm also really surprised at how loud this thing is, it is a noisy little bastard!   If Sony wants to avoid videophiles buying PS3s in lieu of pricy dedicated Blu-Ray players, all they have to do is make it as loud as the 360!   No self respecting home theater buff would want anything with such loud fans in their rack while playing movies and music.

Then again, lanch day Xbox 1 systems had an extra fan that was eliminated in months.    We'll probably see quieter 360s by next summer.

I'm having an issue where my 360s can't see my PC when my PC is using a wireless connection. (D-Link AirPlus G DWL Wireless). However, when I hardwire to my router, my 360s see it fine.  Doesn't seem to be a firewall or Norton issue as well.

Also, I've had to 'recover' my Gamertag (both mine and my wife's) multiple times. Seems as we bump back and forth between systems, something gets corrupt and I have to recover the tags. This never happened with regular xbox. I think if I make an achievement on one system, as soon as I go to the other system, it forces me to recover the gamertag to get everything synched up. I wouldnt mind it so much, but that forces you to go through the email address and password entry screens every time. Faster with a USB keyboard (which works great) but still annoying.

Another thing. While it's great we can download trials of all the LIVE Arcade games, this isn't the case for the gamer picture downloads. Seems like only the COD2 ones right now actually show you what pic you would be D/L. I know its only 25cents in some cases, but I'm not paying that to download a random gamer picture that has a description of the picture instead of the pic itself.

And I'm having an issue with one of my HDs. My Panasonic 34" widescreen CRT (which only does 480p and 1080i) is chopping off about 1/2 inch of the left side of the screen in the dashboard when in 1080i. It displays perfect in 480p. I realize this is probably a TV issue and not the 360s fault. Oh well.  Sucks because there are virtually no adjustment parameters for the CRT.

All this complaining aside, my wife and I are loving our 360s. I was just chatting with a friend online while we were playing separate games. And then I realized I was still chatting when I got up and walked all the way into the kitchen to get a drink.
