These current 1080p sets, including the SXRDs, don't even take a 1080p input.   I'd pass.   New models coming out this year should address this.
It's lines like that that make me second guess all my decisions about buying a new TV. :(

That's the hardest part about buying any technology.  Always something better coming out in a year.  I've had my 32" Sony for almost 4 years now and I've been quite happy with it.  Got it for $1000 which was damn good at the time.

Those 1080p sets are going to make me jealous though.

This is going to be the kind of thing where I just need to pull the trigger on something.  I want a bigger TV, I want hi def, and whether I go with the Samsung or the Sony, 180p or not, I know I'll be happy.  Anything is better than my 24" Sony at the moment. :)

You need to get that, at any price. 'Cause 1080i looks like shit. And don't forget the Monster cables.

And that's the biggest reason that I'm uncomfortable with this decision.  I don't want to buy a HD set that I'll be unhappy with.

I spent around $2000 for a 53" HDTV over four years ago.   I bought it knowing that there are tradeoffs in the different kinds of display technologies (even more so in 2006), and that both substantially better and cheaper technologies were just around the corner.   My set doesn't do 720p, doesn't do 1080p, doesn't do HDMI, but I have no regrets regarding my original decision.   I say bite the bullet and pull the trigger unless you really don't care if you have HDTV for the next year or two; and that's just crazy talk.

Allen is so facetious.

The only reason to pass on a HDTV now would be to avoid the eventual display of Allen masturbatory activities rendered in 1080i/720p glory once the 360 camera becomes available.  With any luck he’ll hold off until 1080p is the standard.

Barring that, just buy a fucking TV and be done with it.   ;D

I think my cellphone does 180p.

One of the new sets I'm interested in is the new 55" Sony SXRD. It accepts 1080p.

So in less than 24 hours I should have my TV.  In the process of getting ready I've come to realize that I HATE wires.  With all my stuff (TiVo, consoles, receiver, cable, etc.) I've had to unplug about a hundred different things.  Now I've got a pile of cables sitting on the floor, waiting to be reattched at some point tomorrow afternoon most likely.  I might take some time to actually try and organize them a bit better now that I've got everything out and unplugged.

Hopefully I'll be able to get some pictures so I can show it off tomorrow.  I think most of yoiu have seen what I lovingly refer to as my "ghetto" home theatre.  This TV will be a significant upgrade.

I'm so f'n excited!
